where anything is possible
Work resumed on the Lorca Centre in October 2013 after a three-year hiaitus.

On Thursday, October 24, 2013 I was able to blog that work on the Lorca Centre in the Plaza de la Romanilla had recommenced two days earlier, after having been at a standstill for three full years. [http://blog.granadalabella.eu/#post41]
It was on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 that I reported that the Centre would not be opening in December that year as scheduled because of ‘unforeseen expenses’ that had arisen during the execution of the work. [http://blog.granadalabella.eu/#post4] It was simply a question of deciding how these extra costs should be borne between the state (Spain), the city (Granada), the province (Granada), and the autonomous region (Andalusia). Then I was still fairly upbeat about the prospects of the Centre which I saw as establishing a real “cultural asset”, home to “a programme of activities of international relevance”. “Look out for news on the opening dates!” I announced, with a degree of optimism that seems quite unrealistic looking back.
By Sunday, January 30, 2011, in #post16, I was complaining “It would be almost tragic if it wasn’t so farcical”. And on Thursday, June 09, 2011, a few days after the 113th anniversary of the poet’s birth, which should have been celebrated in the Centre, #post18 was headed “Granada still without its Lorca Centre!” The four government stakeholders in the project – city, province, region and state – still hadn’t come to an agreement about who covered what of the 4 and a half million euros extra costs.
At last, on October 7, 2013, as I reported in my blog #post38 dated Friday 11th, Laura García-Lorca (President of the Garcia Lorca Foundation) - who one might think has reason enough to be sceptical – announced with an impressive display of confidence that the problem of financing the Lorca Centre had been resolved and the Centre would be open in time for the 116th anniversary of the poet’s birth on 5 June 2014, five months from now.
